Dear Resident Tackling theft from motor vehicles remains an ongoing Neighbourhood Policing Team priority for the West of Hatfield. But we would also like to remind you of the importance of keeping your vehicles and keys secure to prevent thefts from vehicles Tips to prevent vehicle crime: Ensure you lock doors and shut windows/sunroof when leaving your vehicle unattended.Always remove keys from the ignition when you are not with the vehicleWhen parking, remember to set your immobiliser or alarm or use an approved steering lock or gear lever clamp.Never leave valuables in your vehicle – not even in the glove box or boot – and keep all possessions out of sight – even coats, sunglasses and carrier bags, including any work tools in vans.Remove your satnav and holder and wipe away suction marks which could indicate that a satnav is stored in your vehicle.Be aware of your keys. Don’t leave them lying around, visible or in pockets in changing rooms where they could be taken. Don’t leave them visible on a windowsill or near to your front door, where they could be “hooked” through the letterbox. If you have a keyless entry car use a signal blocking bag(faraday bag or box) and consider using additional trackers and steering wheel locks.Register your valuables on www.immobilise.com.Store car ownership documents at home, not in your car.Secure number plates with anti-theft screws.Park car in your garage if you have one. Consider CCTV to cover your driveway.Look for car parks with a Secured Car Park sign which have recognised levels of security. Noisy gravel on your drive can help deter a would be thief, as they do not want to alert you as they approach.Using PIR or LED security lighting to as this can act as a deterrent also.Use a steering lock as an extra security measure.
